After being outscored 128-54 in their two regular season matchups with Port Charlotte, Venice head coach James Slaton said Wednesday’s District 11 semifinal would have a different outcome.

Slaton was right, but his team’s improved effort was not enough as the Pirates prevailed 56-39 in a game that was closer than the final score would indicate.
