Shirley Louise Koops Budner, 78, of Venice, formerly of Michigan, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

Shirley was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Greenwood, Miss., the daughter of the late Fred William and Bessie (Hodges) Koops Jr. She was a teacher with a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, as well as a master’s degree in education. She taught elementary school for 36 years until her retirement. She taught for 34 years at Venice Elementary School. She loved to read, sew, travel the country with her husband, and spend time with her family.

Shirley is survived by her son, Larry, and wife, Angkana, along with their daughter, Jessica, all of Thailand; daughter Terri Khalil, husband, Mohsin, and their daughter, Sonya, all of Clearwater, Fla.; and daughter Becky Schimsky and husband, Steve, of Clearwater, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Al.

Services: A private burial will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date. Ewing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
