Katie “Oma” Fischer, of Englewood, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at her Sarasota County residence. She was 105 years old.

Katie was born July 23, 1907, in Nehren, Germany, to Bernhard and Maria Flammer. She was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Moving to America in 1933, she lived in New York City and married Ernest Fischer, who preceded her in death in 1984 after 50 years of marriage. She will be buried alongside Ernest in Pawling, N.Y., where they were longtime residents.

Katie is survived by her one daughter, Christine Hart, who lives in Englewood; and five grandsons, James and Linda Hart of Englewood, John and Sheri Hart of Dayton, Ohio, Daniel Hart of Venice, David and Bridgett Hart of Venice and Rich and Barbie Hart of Smith Mountain Lake, Va. She also loved her 15 great-grandchildren: Stephen, Jordan, Bella, Madison, Savannah, Shelby, Sophie, Samantha, Ben, Charlie, Seth, Austin, Grayson, Destiny and Jackson.

Katie worked as director of medical records at MONY and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in New York City and, more recently, of Venice Bible Church. Her love of music had her regularly attending the Venice Symphony. She loved her family, and left a legacy of faith and hope in Jesus Christ.

Services: A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Venice Bible Church, 2395 West Shamrock Drive, Venice. Music will be provided by the Palm Strings Quartet. Farley Funeral Home, Venice, is handling the arrangements.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Tidewell Hospice, the Venice Symphony or HeartswithoutBorders.org.
