Paul Bernard Hanrahan, of Venice, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, in Easton, Md. He was 81.
Paul was born Oct. 29, 1931 in Sharon, Pa. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1949 and attended Villanova University on an NROTC scholarship, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry in 1954. Upon graduation, he served as a line officer in the U.S. Navy from 1954 through 1957, serving as the boat group commander aboard the USS Rankin, a highly decorated member of an amphibious strike force operating in the Mediterranean. After completing his service with the Navy, he worked for Union Carbide Corp. in sales and marketing until he retired as director of the Specialty Chemicals Division in 1994.
Paul was a loving husband and father. Throughout his life he particularly treasured his times with his family, in-laws, nephews, nieces and grandchildren during vacations at the beaches in Avalon, N.J., and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends and family at the Venice Golf & Country Club in Venice.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Frances Hanrahan; their six children, Paul, and his wife, Rodanthe, of Easton, Md., Chris, of Danbury, Conn., Geri Downey, and her husband, Mike, of Hopatcong, N.J., Jay, and his wife, Kelly, of Bel Air, Md., Michael, of St. Louis, Mo., and Sean, and his wife, Kristina, of Kennett Square, Pa.; and eight grandchildren, Kaley, Chris, and Garrett Hanrahan, Patrick and Katelyn Downey, and Colin, Shane and Katie Hanrahan. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Mary Schott. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. James B. Hanrahan.
Services: Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison St., Easton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Easton, Md. Interment will follow at Oxford Cemetery.
