Jean S. Dunnington, nee Schermerhorn, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born Jan. 13, 1932, in White Plains, N.Y., the daughter of William and Ruth Schermerhorn, she was a descendant of Peter Schermerhorn, a merchant ship owner. The Schermerhorn row block is now part of the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan dating from 1811. Jean was graduate of W.P.H.S and Cazenovia College. Jean married Carl E. Dunnington in 1961 and resided in Kensington, Md.

She was active in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. In 1987, after the death of her husband, she returned to South Salem, N.Y. A 10-year member of the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, she served as both captain and president. During her many years in Nokomis, she volunteered for Agape Flights and Venice Theatre.

She is survived by her sister, Nan C. Lewis, and her husband, Richard; niece and nephews Michael, Robert and Heather; cousins Carol Kearney, husband, Tony, and daughter, Amanda, and Roger Hunt and family; stepdaughter Dolores Kalpak and husband, Ara; stepson Ronald Dunnington and wife, Barbara; four grandchildren, Ronald, Dawn “Pitter,” Cari and David; and five great-grandchildren, Moriah, Ananiah, Love, Marlee and Grayson.

Services: Arrangements are being handled by Ewing Funeral Home of Venice. Services will be private with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
