New life — Circus Arena gets reprieve

That isn't a skylight in the Venice Circus Arena, but a caved in portion of the roof. The city building department condemned the building on Tuesday, giving a nonprofit 60 days to rehab the building or demolish it.

Under a new deal struck this week, city leaders agreed not to demolish the dilapidated Circus Arena — for now.

Instead, the city manager unveiled a plan for a partial demolition, removing the Arena’s outer sheathing, asbestos and lead paint, a process that would bring the arena into code compliance for awhile.
