SPRING HILL, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man was shot while Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were checking out a suspicious person report in Spring Hill.

The shooting happened late Wednesday.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that neighbors heard commotion before the shooting.

Deputies say the man was taken to a trauma center with what were believed to be injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, which is a standard procedure after a shooting. The sheriff’s office will also conduct its own investigation.
