Red tide is back

A steady stream of people headed out on Venice Beach Thursday afternoon in spite of signs warning about the presence of red tide and the sound of other beachgoers coughing from the airborne toxin it releases.

Less than six weeks after littering local beaches with dead fish, red tide has been detected in the area again.
Levels are low at this time but still high enough to make coughing a common sound at Venice Beach Thursday afternoon.
