NORTH PORT — Menetta Olan’s father died while she was pregnant with her daughter, and she always wondered how she would explain where he was once the child was old enough to ask.

The answer came in the form of “Where Is Grandpa?” — a children’s book Olan wrote that takes the reader on a walk with a mother and her young daughter as mom explains the delicate subject of mortality to the child with tenderness and optimism.
