SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Call it a lucky day for 29-year-old bartender Edwin Perez.

Perez was prepping the bar at Havana’s Cuban Cuisine in Sunrise just before noon Wednesday when a red sports utility vehicle crashed through the front window. He saw the vehicle just in time and managed to jump out of the way.

Miami television station WSVN reports the driver was a woman in her 70s. It wasn’t clear why she lost control and she wasn’t injured in the crash.

Perez says the manager yelled for him to be careful and he saw the SUV and “jumped over the counter.”

He has cuts on his legs that resulted in a few stitches.

Restaurant owner Michael Mellion says he’s thankful Perez is so athletic.

Mellion says he plans to reopen on Thursday.
