NORTH PORT — City commissioners will decide tonight whether to hear a presentation asking them to consider crafting an ordinance that would allow domestic partners to register in the city, giving them many of the same legal rights and protections as married couples.

Spearheaded by former city of Sarasota Commissioner Ken Shelin, the presentation will lean heavily on the ordinance that was crafted in the city of Sarasota and has been in effect since Oct. 15.
