City dealing
with $3.9M in property liens
NORTH PORT — City commissioners are trying to figure out how to wipe $3.9 million in outstanding property liens off of the city’s books, fines that have been accruing prior to a 2010 ordinance designed to cap those liens at a certain amount.
North Port Building Director Scott Williams, provided commissioners with a spread sheet listing 126 liens over 78 properties, but said there were about 3,000 liens still outstanding for various reasons. He said the numbers of properties that received a final judgment actually takes the total amount of outstanding liens down to roughly $3.3 million.
