Sarasota and Charlotte county motorists were not alone Sunday — more than 600 bicyclists joined their morning commute on portions of State Road 776 and Tamiami Trail.

The inaugural Rev3 Florida HalfRev Triathlon kicked off at 7:50 a.m. at Maxine Barritt Park in Venice. The 56-mile bicycling part of the race meandered through congested county roadways, causing delays. With only two minor accidents, and pumping an estimated $1 million into the counties combined, race officials consider the event a success.
