PUNTA GORDA — Neither rain nor snow or dark of night could stop Clyde Newton on Friday.

After a season-worst 73 yards rushing in last week’s loss to Fort Myers High School, Newton more than made up for it against Gulf Coast, rushing for 208 yards and five touchdowns on nine carries as Charlotte rolled to a 49-0 victory in its District 7A-11 opener.
