SARASOTA COUNTY — Sarasota County soon will have a better way of identifying appropriate public use of environmentally sensitive land sites around the area.

For the last several months, the county’s Natural Resources Department has been working to develop a “land sensitivity evaluation matrix” as part of the county’s “Right Land — Right Use” initiative. The LSEM is an internal tool for county staff to quickly access information on the environmentally sensitive sites that the county manages, and for the use of which it fields public requests. The matrix, presented to the county’s Environmentally Sensitive Lands Oversight Committee on Thursday, is also a scoring system to guide public requests about using the sites.
