A 21-year-old North Port man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in her car and forcing her to drive him around.

According to a Sarasota County sheriff’s report, the 25-year-old victim walked out of a Venice restaurant around 4 p.m. Friday and was approached by Hamza Alghani of the 7600 block of Wexford St., North Port, who asked her to take him to a nearby park, saying he lost his wallet and money there. Although the woman was hesitant to give a stranger a ride, she eventually agreed and drove him to Ronald Foxworthy Park on Gulf Coast Boulevard in South Venice. When the wallet could not be found, Alghani asked the woman to drive him to his house and he would pay her for gas. Alghani then gave her directions to a home on Nightingale Road, saying they had to wait for his friend to come home with a key. As the two sat in the woman’s car and she got a text message from her boyfriend, Alghani told her she had a nice phone and asked to look at it. She handed it over, and Alghani placed it on the floor, then suddenly snatched her around the neck and held what he said was a knife to her throat, according to the report. Alghani then forced the victim to perform a sex act, the report states. The victim then attempted to beep the car horn, and said Alghani told her not to try anything stupid. She pleaded with him to let her go, but he directed her to drive to another park to have sex, the report shows. Along the way, the woman saw a marked sheriff’s vehicle parked in a driveway. She stopped the car and sounded the car’s horn repeatedly, the report shows. Alghani then fled the vehicle. The victim ran to the house and knocked on the door, yelling for help. An off-duty deputy answered and called 911. Alghani was located in the 4500 block of Englewood Road and arrested at 9 p.m. Alghani was charged with sexual assault with a weapon and kidnapping. He remained at the Sarasota County Jail Monday without bond.
