Jean Airey speaks at the Warm Mineral Springs/Little Salt Spring Archaeological Society September meeting. Airey shared information about the 1988 discovery of a 1,700-year-old Native American cemetery on Manasota Key. Displayed behind her is a newspaper clipping showing some of the skeletal remains discovered.
More than 50 gathered at the North Port Community United Church of Christ Tuesday night for a presentation by Jean Airey about a Native American cemetery unearthed on Manasota Key in 1988.
Airey, vice president of the Lemon Bay Historical Society, voluntarily complied a number of databases analyzing findings from the site, in the hopes it might spur more research.
