ENGLEWOOD — The Lemon Bay High School swim team gets to sleep in this morning.

Before the boys 500-yard freestyle in a home meet against North Port on Thursday, Lemon Bay coach Kelly Duncan dared freshman Brandon Kern to swim the event in a mid-season form 4:59.99, which would have been more than 30 seconds below his seed time. If he did, she said, the whole team needn’t show for its usual 5:40 a.m. practice.
