The Memory Palace by Mira Bartok
VENICE — Greg Carlson, manager of the Jacaranda Library, has partnered with Beacon House, part of the Mental Health Community Centers, Inc., to launch Books-to-Action, a program designed to integrate themes from popular books into actions that benefit the community.
The purpose of Books-to-Action is to select, read and discuss a book with a social issue at its center, inspiring the community to get involved with it. The program’s first selection will be the New York Times bestseller “The Memory Palace,” a memoir by Mira Bartok. The book describes how Bartok’s brain injuries suffered in a traffic accident helped her better understand her mother’s lifelong battle with mental illness, and aided her in recreating some of her own lost childhood memories.
