As of 5 p.m. Friday the predicted track for Tropical Storm Isaac made landfall in the Florida panhandle the more likely scenario, but experts warn that the storms can make sudden, unexpected changes in course.
The Sarasota County Commission declared a local state of emergency Friday afternoon as a precautionary measure in the event Tropical Storm Isaac makes a significant impact on the area.
The state of emergency declaration allows the county to be prepared for any unforeseen expenditures due to the storm, and puts the county’s emergency operations plans in motion. It allows the county to take whatever protective measures necessary to protect property and the public, use mutual aid assets, and apply for federal funding in the event of damage from wind, rain or flooding.
