The U.S. — particularly Texas — has been inundated by cases of the West Nile virus, according to the Associated Press and other reports.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed this year to have one of the largest outbreaks the U.S. has seen, resulting in 118 reported cases, half of them in Texas, and 41 deaths this year, according to CDC reports. Mississippi, Louisiana, South Dakota and Oklahoma also are seeing large numbers of reports of mosquitoes infected with the virus.
