Sea turtles playing catch-up

Tropical Storm Debby trashed the markers set out to protect sea turtle nests, leaving many unmarked. Mote Marine is seeking donations to replenish its supply of stakes and cages.

When Tropical Storm Debby attacked Sarasota County beaches June 24 and 25, sea turtles seemed to be the biggest losers.
Losses were still being tabulated as recently as July 20, according to Wilma Katz, president of Coastal Wildlife Club, which monitors county beaches from Caspersen in Venice south to Gasparilla Island and Little Gasparilla Island
