A decrease in taxable property values usually isn’t cause for celebration, but the numbers released Wednesday afternoon by the Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s Office could justify one in the county.

The county had estimated a 4 percent decrease when creating its preliminary budget for fiscal year 2013. However, the Property Appraiser’s Office announced Wednesday the decrease is only .87 percent.
