Businesses feel Debby’s wrath

Rain and wind in downtown Venice led to some business holidays over the weekend as Tropical Storm Debby gave the city its first taste of the 2012 hurricane season.

Tom Carney, owner of T.J. Carney’s, 231 W. Venice Ave., and Pineapples Island Grill, 133 South Tamiami Trail, closed both restaurants Sunday and Pineapples again on Monday. It was a first for Pineapples, and he could not remember the last time weather forced the closure of T.J. Carney’s.
