School Board approves North Port redistricting
NORTH PORT — The Sarasota County School Board unanimously approved a change in the North Port school district’s configuration Tuesday evening, in a move to strike a better balance between the number of children attending Heron Creek and Woodland middle schools.
Currently, Heron Creek’s enrollment is 1,049 students, to Woodland’s 657. The redistricting will shift some 185 students from Heron Creek to Woodland for the 2012-13 school year. By the 2014-15 school year, Heron Creek will have 828 students and Woodland would have 856, according to research conducted by the School Board’s Boundary
Advisory Committee.
