Water advisory in effect at Venice Beach

Venice Beach was nearly empty Friday afternoon, with gray skies, high surf and a beach advisory combining to keep most beachgoers away.

A beach water advisory has been issued for Venice Beach, at the west end of Venice Avenue, one mile west of U.S. 41 Business.
Sarasota County Health Department officials received testing results from beach water samples taken Wednesday that show an elevated level of enterococci (enteric) bacteria.
