The manager of Oscar Scherer State Park in Osprey is troubled by three proposed projects: the Energy Economic Zone near the intersection of Interstate 75 and State Road 681; the Town Center, also near I-75/S.R. 681; and the relocation of the I-75/Central Sarasota Parkway interchange.
“We are concerned about the potential impacts to the natural resources and the park visitor experience,” park manager Tony Clements wrote in a Jan. 9 letter to Sarasota County Commission Chair Christine Robinson. “Of most concern are impacts from lights and noise pollution, impacts to water quality and quantity, maintaining buffers between the park and the development, and the isolation of wildlife species due to loss of wildlife corridors.”
