BRADENTON — After Port Charlotte High School went into halftime of the District 4A-11 tournament opener down 1-0 to Manatee on Monday night, coach Chip Stec really thought his team could tie the score.

The Hurricanes hadn’t scored until the 31st minute, when Katherine Christenson hit a long strike that bounced around in the box before finally crossing the goal line. The two teams had played evenly before that, with No. 6-seed Port Charlotte denying No. 3-seed Manatee on every other try.
