Charlotte High School Tarpon girls’ weightlifting Coach Angie Nolan said, “Anything over 10 girls qualifying to advance after today, and we’d be pretty happy.”
Nolan had to have been extremely thrilled when 13 of her 15 girls finished in the top three places to advance to the qualifying round at Port Charlotte High School on Jan. 24.
The sub-qualifier, held at Charlotte High School on Jan. 10, is like a district game for other sports. The top three lifters in each weight class advance to the next round where 32 schools will compete. The top three from there go on to the state meet.
