BRADENTON — Lemon Bay High School eliminated last year’s runner-up, Manatee, 38-33 on Thursday night in the opening round of the Smoothie King Classic at Bradenton Christian High School.

The Mantas jumped on the Hurricanes early and held a 12-3 lead after the first quarter and a 10-point lead at halftime. The Mantas were led by juniors Hayley Smith, a member of the 2011 Smoothie King Classic all-tournament team, and Kayla Reid.
