Richard D. Borst Sr.

Richard D. Borst Sr., 76, of Corryton, Tenn., passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013.

He retired from working as a Mason in 1975. Richard had served as Fire Chief in New Berlin, N.Y., and Pittsfield, N.Y. Richard was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5690, and American Legion 110, in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Surviors include wife, Norma Jensen Borst; children, Wendy (Jeffrey) Prentice and Cindy (Bernard) Kupris, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; son, Richard Borst Jr. of Punta Gorda, Fla.; son, Norman Raastad of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Charline (Robert) Gibbs of North Norwich, N.Y.; brother, Thomas J. Borst of New Berlin; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Whiskers the rabbit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Queenie Decker Borst; grandson, Jeremy Prentice; and son, Douglas Raastad.

Friends and family gathered at the home Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, for a celebration of Richard’s life. Graveside services will be held at a later date in New York state. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Young-Williams Animal Center online at www.young-williams.org.
