Roger Cameron Van Berkom
Roger Cameron Van Berkom, 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Minot, N.D., passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, surrounded by family in a Port Charlotte, Fla., hospice facility.
He was born in Powers Lake, N.D., Sept. 8, 1938, to John and Esther Van Berkom.
Roger was raised on the family farm and attended Minot State College. He enjoyed a career in health care as a medical technologist who worked in hospitals in Crosby, N.D., and Minot, and later managed and owned Medical Diagnostics Laboratory in Minot. In 1994, Roger retired to Florida. He enjoyed his hobby of making and selling golf clubs for several years, and spending time with friends and family.
Roger is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda; sons, Trevor Van (Joanne) Berkom of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Tyler (Jill) Van Berkom of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Adonna (Roy) Thorlaksen of Powers Lake, N.D., Yvonne Schreiner of Minot, Lupe (Bob) Obert of Stanley, N.D., and Barbara (Ray) Zeena of Estero, Fla.; and his brother, Lowell (Leanne) of Shoreview, Minn.; as well as grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his faithful Boston terrier, Reilly. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Darlene.
A memorial service will be planned at a future date. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, donations are suggested to local hospice organizations.
Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte.
