Simone J. “Sam” LaPlaca, 92, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.

He was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Rochester, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1978 from Rochester.

Mr. LaPlaca was a retired Monroe County Deputy Sheriff. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was Catholic.

Survivors include his stepdaughters, Kathleen Nilsen of Pittsford, N.Y., and Carolynn Kennard of Rochester; stepsons, Philip Kennard of Rochester, and James Kennard of Palm Coast, Fla.; sister, Antoinette Sardsisco of Rochester; brother, Joseph LaPlaca of Virginia; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arrangements are by National Cremation Society of Port Charlotte, Fla.
