Gladys Poffenbaugh

Gladys Poffenbaugh, 91, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.

Born in Hackensack, N.J., Mrs. Poffenbaugh lived in Short Hills, N.J., before moving to Florida in 1978.

She was a former member of Kingsway Golf Club and the Punta Gorda Isles Yacht Club. As a resident of South Port Square Assisted Living Facility in Port Charlotte, she enjoyed playing golf and tennis, and spending time with friends and family.

Mrs. Poffenbaugh is survived by her sister, Dorothy Teague of North Port, Fla.; son, Andrew Wolff of Burlington, N.C.; daughter, Janice Estes of Chatham, N.J.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Wolff.

A private Memorial Service for Gladys Poffenbaugh was held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in Punta Gorda, Fla. Mrs. Poffenbaugh was laid to rest at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens in Punta Gorda, next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Hi Janice and Andrew: I just learned of your Mom's and one of my best friends and tennis partners, passed away this past January. Since we have been gone from Punta Gorda for about about a year, I only had phone contact with your Mom. We have been traveling and I had total knee replacement while gone. We always planned a luncheon for her birthday and mine each year and we missed the ones in 2012. When I last spoke to her, I wasn't quite sure how she was doing but she seemed weak and she said was not doing so well but like always, I thought when we came back to PG in Jan., she and I could get together at South Port. I will certainly miss our special visits and lunches, but I will never forget the good times we had doing them and playing on the courts since Ron and I came to PG in 1988. When we lived in PGI, we had many visits to your Mom's condo and many laughs as each of us tried to master the computer age. She really was determined. When we both moved, we still stayed in contact and had our special days together. Our sympathies go out to your families, yet I know how much she traveled to enjoy all of the special moments she could with each and every one. I know you will all hold on to those memories. We spent most of our visits going over the special tennis matches of your family, vacations and other activities and births you have all experienced.
