Anne E. Swing, 82, of Port Charlotte Fla., passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, after an extended illness and battle with cancer.

She was born July 26, 1930, in Wilmington, Ohio, to Thomas and Loretta Egan.

Anne was a loving and dedicated mother and wife. She spent much of her life devoted to working for others and for the Catholic Church. Anne received her bachelor’s degree in music education at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. There she also received a master’s degree in elementary education and administration. Anne received a master’s degree in pastoral ministries at St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla., followed by a doctorate in pastoral counseling from the Theological Foundation in Indiana. For many years, Anne taught and worked as an administrator in the Cincinnati public school system. For two years, she taught in the Philippines for the Defense Department schools. She also co-hosted a children’s television show. After her marriage to Fred, they moved to Naples, Fla., where Anne was very involved in the Women’s Medical Auxiliary. She was the founding President of the Collier County, Fla., Medical Society Women’s Auxiliary. After moving to Port Charlotte in 1972, Anne became President of the Charlotte County, Fla., Medical Society Women’s Auxiliary. She served as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Membership Chairperson of the Florida Medical Association Auxiliary. Anne conducted numerous seminars for the Medical Auxiliary in leadership, motivation, health education and legislation. She was President of the St. Charles Borromeo School Board for two years, and served as a member of that Board for many years. She was also a founding member of the Charlotte County YMCA, and served on the Board for six years. Anne dedicated countless hours as an advocate for the elderly. She worked for 15 years at the Catholic Diocese of Venice, Fla., as the Director of Respect Life and Elderly Apostolate. She was very active in the Charlotte County Council on Aging, and served for three years on the Advisory Board of the Adult Education Association of Charlotte County. Anne served on the St. Joseph Hospital Advisory Council and was the founder of Tele-Care (a telephone reassurance service for the elderly and housebound). She served on the Council of Catholic Women at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, and on Advisory Boards for the Area Council on Aging and Hospice of Charlotte County. She also served on the Board and Executive Committee of the Cultural Center of Charlotte County in Port Charlotte for 19 years.

Anne is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Fred P. Swing, M.D.; their four children, Bridget (Tony), Maggi (Dave), Katie and Joe; and their seven grandchildren, Palmer, Thomas, Zoe, Maggi, Abby, Julie and Jacob. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Loretta Egan; her infant twins, Tommie and Freddie; and her brother, Dr. James Egan.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
