Ann Marie Monica Dyer

Ann Marie Monica (formerly Anne Marie Nelson) Dyer, 55, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in North Port, Fla.

She was born May 5, 1957, in San Fernando, Trinidad, to Austin and Anora Dyer.

The second of four children, Ann Marie spent the first 12 years of her life in Trinidad. She came to the United States with her family in 1969, and spent her teenage years in Albany, N.Y. Ann Marie attended Sienna University in New York, where she received her BS degree in Biology. She started her medical career with the U.S. Army via a ROTC scholarship, where she was stationed at Fort Polk, La. Following her U.S. Army career, Ann Marie returned to Albany, later spending time in Virginia with her last home of residence being North Port. While living in North Port, she maintained several nursing-administration positions, with her most recent being the Director of Clinical Services at Heritage Park Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Fort Myers, Fla. Ann Marie loved caring for people and was passionate about her nursing career.

In addition to a fulfilling professional life, Ann Marie was a loving and devoted mother to four children who survive her, Jerome, Angelique, Shawn and Cynthia, all residing in Florida; five grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jarelle, Jordan, Jaydon and Jaeda; her mother, Anora Dyer of North Port; and her three siblings, Michael Dyer of Haymarket, Va., Anselm Dyer of Melbourne, Fla., and Elizabeth Arnold of Atlanta, Ga.

A Memorial Service and celebration of Ann Marie’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at St. James Episcopal Church, 1365 Viscaya Drive, Port Charlotte, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that Memorial Contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, 1040 Woodcock Road, Suite 119, Orlando, FL 32803. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
