Of the four students who graduated Friday from the SunCoast Trucking Academy, the ace of the class was 37-year-old Cherlynn Scott of DeSoto County. And that’s according to her all-male classmates.

Her graduation makes her one of some 200,000 women truckers nationwide. They make up about 5 percent of the trucking industry’s workforce, according to the trucking website www.layover.com.
