NORTH PORT — The owners of Smack Daddy’s, a new barbecue and comfort-food restaurant at Toledo Blade and Price boulevards, loved this area so much they relocated here from New Jersey.

“We were looking at a couple of different places, and North Port, when I looked at the demographics on it, has the highest growth rate for this side of Florida,” said Laura Van Vlack. “Then when I actually saw the restaurant and the location, and I saw everything around it, I thought, ‘There is no way this can fail unless I have terrible service or food,’ and I hope I don’t have terrible service, and I know the food is good.”
