Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzan Stallions will hold a special benefit performance at 4 p.m. March 10, at their winter home at 32755 Singletary Road in Myakka City. These magnificent horses will appear in full costume to perform their graceful and precision maneuvers, with all proceeds to benefit the restoration of the historic Myakka City Schoolhouse, built in 1914. There will be a special guest appearance by World War II veteran David Simington, who was with General Patton when these elegant horses were rescued. Along with the equine performance, there will be plenty of great food such as fried green tomatoes, gator bites, funnel cakes, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, ice cream and more. In addition there will be games for children. You will also have an opportunity to see the horses up close. Admission to the Lipizzans’ performances are often $30 or more, but on Sunday you can see them for a donation of only $12 per person, $6 for a child.
