Vlast Thomas “Tom” Jelinek of Englewood, Fla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Sunset Lake and Rehab Center of Venice, Fla.

Before moving to Englewood 27 years ago, Tom and his wife owned a camera shop in Westchester, Ill. He also had a four-piece band playing for weddings, dances and parties. After moving to Florida, he worked for J.C. Penney, and was a musician entertaining at local retirement centers.

Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia (nee Spevak); children, Cindy (Tad) Bassett of Sandy, Utah, Thomas Jelinek of Aurora, Ill., and Janice (Jerry) Lindberg of Englewood; grandchildren, Allison Bassett, Kyle Bassett, Traci Bryan, Timothy Bryan, Jeffrey Jelinek, 2nd Lt. William Lindberg and Derrick Lindberg; and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in the Chapel of Peace.
