Andrew J. Merva, 85, of Englewood, Fla., and formerly of Stratford, Conn., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in his home.

He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., to John and Helen Tatar Merva.

Andrew was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and was retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, where he was a planner.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Ann Mangiacapra Merva of Englewood; two devoted sons, Peter Merva of Naples, Fla., and Paul (Mary) Merva of Rotonda West, Fla.; sister, Dorothy (Jack) Mudrick of Stratford; and several nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by a son, John Merva; sister, Ann Mangiacapra; and his parents.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. Raphael’s Church, 770 Kilbourne Ave., Englewood. Funeral services took place Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, with Full Military Honors, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull, Conn.
