Michael J. Meehan

Michael J. “Mike” Meehan, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his home in Englewood, Fla.

He was born in Jersey City, N.J.

Michael resided in Budd Lake, N.J., for many years, before retiring to Englewood in 1995. He was a Silver Star recipient in the Korean War for his heroism in combat under enemy fire and saving lives of his fellow U.S. Army members. Michael became a Jersey City Firefighter for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He was currently a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Dianne (nee Gall); children, Bouraine (Larry) Smith of Lake Ariel, Pa., Michael (Christine) Meehan of Englewood, Richard (Irene) Meehan of Englewood, and John D. (Kirsten) Meehan of Landing, N.J.; five granddaughters; three grandsons; and three great-grandsons.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Grove City, Fla. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jersey City Firemen’s Distress Fund, 465 Marin Blvd., Jersey City, NJ 07302.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
