John Dougall Craig
John D. Craig, 72, of Englewood, Fla., and Toronto, Ontario, Canada, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Englewood, where he was a winter resident.
Born July 31, 1940, in Paris, Ontario, Canada, John was the only child of Dougall Craig and Helen Moore Craig.
An employee of the Bank of Montreal for 40 years, John enjoyed several administrative positions across Canada. As Premises Manager, his last move was to Toronto, overseeing the Bank’s move into their new Canadian Head Office at First Canadian Place in Toronto. John was also active in the Canadian Business Travel Association. He retired in 2000, as Corporate Services Manager. This gentle and kind man loved and was loved by his family and friends; his loss is immeasurable. John attended St. David’s Episcopal Church in Englewood. He was happiest volunteering and working alongside his friends in the kitchen at various functions, at the Thrift Shop, and making all smile when he was “Mr. Santa.” Summers at the cottage on Kennisis Lake in Ontario were filled with joy and laughter; a “renewal of family vows.”
John is survived by his wife and best friend of 37 years, Marilyn; three stepchildren, Alexandra Dousmanis (David) Curtis, Christos Dousmanis and Athanasios (Hanako Yamaguchi) Dousmanis; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Bruce and Georgia Curtis, George, Kristina (Cliff) Rigney, Ashli (Andrew) Stevens, Jason and Kaia Yamaguchi; two great-grandchildren, Sydney Stevens and Tristin Rigney; sister-in-law, Laura (Bud) Fera of Rochester, N.Y.; her four beloved sons and their families; his brother-in-law, Bernard (Cecelia) Derby of Rotonda West, Fla., and their son, daughter and families in Florida. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Loretta (Robert) Stumpf (who have a son and his family in Florida, and a dear daughter and her husband in Rochester, N.Y.).
A memorial Service will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church, at a date to be determined. Cremation will be followed by inurnment in Rochester. Memorial contributions may be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church; or to Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Fla.
