Father Bartholomew Larkin

Father Bartholomew (Richard Francis) Larkin, O.Carm., 82, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

He was born to James Joseph Larkin and Theresa (nee Fitzgerald) Larkin, Dec. 22, 1931, in Salem, Mass.

Father Bartholomew entered the Carmelite Order in 1950, and was ordained a priest in 1954. Among his assignments, teacher; Dean of Students; Prior of the Carmelite community at DeSales High School, Louisville, Ky.; teacher at the Carmelite Junior Seminary, Hamilton, Mass.; and vocation director for the Chicago Carmelite Province. He was a pastor at the following parishes; St. Mary, Joliet, Ill.; St. Therese, Cresskill, N.J.; St. Patrick, Niagara Falls, Ontario; St. Mary, Closter, N.J.; and St. Francis of Assisi, Grove City, Fla. Father Bartholomew also served as assistant pastor at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Newport News, Va., and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Louisville, Ky.

He is survived by his brother, William. Father Bartholomew is preceded in death by his brother, Father John Larkin, O.Carm.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 5265 Placida Road, Grove City, FL, with a prayer service ending the visitation. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Interment will follow at Venice Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials in honor of the Reverend Bartholomew Larkin, O.Carm., can be made to the Order of Carmelites, 1317 N. Frontage Rd., Darien, IL, 60561. You may share a memory at www.englewoodfh.com.
