Andrew “Andy” G. Sharpe of Englewood, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012.

The Sharpe family relocated to Englewood from New Jersey in 1953. Andy’s family opened Sharpe’s Garage in the ’50s. Later, he provided small engine repair service to Englewood residents until 2002, when he semi-retired. Andy and Lolly enjoyed boating, fishing, scuba diving, and lobstering in local waters and in the Florida Keys. He had a passion for supporting local, athletic programs with his grandson.

Andy is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis “Lolly” Sharpe; son, Michael; daughter, Jamie Curry; grandson, Brayden Curry; sister, Denise Alexandrou; and brother, George.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the Englewood Gardens Club, 2560 N. Beach Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Andy’s honor to the Lemon Bay Touchdown Club and mailed to P.O. Box 38, Englewood, FL 34295, to assist local Lemon Bay High School football athletes with fees required for participation.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home.

Andy Sharpe and his family have been a pleasure to know. His active presence and wonderful sense of community and caring will be greatly missed. Many will be blessed ongoingly by memories of shared neighboring, friendships engendered and his legacy of community involvement and influence.
