VENICE — Dr. Steven J. Wasserman, a Venice dermatologist, has agreed to pay $26.1 million to the federal government to resolve allegations that he billed Medicare for medically unnecessary services.
According to a Department of Justice statement released Monday, the settlement is the largest ever with an individual under the False Claims Act in the Middle District of Florida and one of the largest with an individual under the False Claims Act in U.S. history.
