Mobile Gardens residents Ray Bardwell, Jim O'Dell, Tom "Jake" Jacobsen — seated in the golf cart he uses for Neighborhood Watch patrols — and Bob Willoughby, president of the Mobile Gardens Association of Englewood, hope Charlotte County commissioners will allow them to drive golf carts on their community's public roads.

ENGLEWOOD — Ray Bardwell and others in the Mobile Gardens subdivision are looking forward to Charlotte County approving an ordinance allowing residents to ride golf carts in the streets — legally, that is.

“We’ve had the golf carts in the past, and we’ve had no incidents, and we want to use the golf carts legally,” Bardwell told Charlotte County commissioners Tuesday. “It’s an inexpensive way for us to get around in our community, rather than the gas-guzzlers that we all probably have.”
