The little bit of rain that fell Thursday morning did nothing to ease the threat of wildfires across Southwest Florida.

Sarasota County reached 600 on the Keetch-Byram Drought Index, which measures moisture levels in the soil. The index ranges from zero to 800, with the latter being the most dry. An estimated 60 percent of Sarasota County is at a 600 or higher, according to the Florida Forest Service. Only Broward, Manatee and Miami-Dade counties registered higher index scores than Sarasota.
