Group plans to woo boat racing
A small group of local citizens organized by Charlotte County’s Tourism Department has crafted a plan to bring Superboat International, a Florida company that stages high-end international motorboat races in places such as Sarasota, Miami and Key West, to Charlotte County in the hopes of infusing the local economy with tourism revenue.
The group, headed by Punta Gorda resident and member of the Royal Order of Ponce De Leon Conquistadors Jerry York, will meet with staff and County Administrator Ray Sandrock next week to present the idea of bringing in an off-shore racing event similar to the one hosted in Sarasota County each year.
