Court upholds pension law
The Florida Supreme Court’s decision Thursday to uphold a state law that requires teachers, state and county employees to contribute 3 percent of their pay to Florida’s pension plan was bittersweet news for Charlotte and Sarasota county officials, who simultaneously breathed sighs of relief while gritting their teeth.
“Right here it’s good news,” said County Administrator Ray Sandrock, pointing to the county’s overall budget. “But the other side of that is that they’ll be some disappointment on the side of the employees.”
